West Dominants the East, Winning 2 of 3 Matches

The West team continued their dominance over the East squad with just a handful of players at the Hancock Individual Tournament on May 5th and raised their record to 6-4 while the East fell to 4-6. The handful of players consisted of Mike Sobremonte, Jack Slayton, Waymon McLamb, and Don Akers. Sobremonte and Slayton led the way with low net rounds of 63. Slayton not only helped his team to the win but also helped him move to the lead in the Grand Prix standings.  McLamb followed with a 72 while Akers had a 73.
For the East team, Ken Garrett led with a 66 followed by Charles
Kelley and Donald Garcia with 67's. Lee Jefferson and Travis McWhorter contributed a 68 and 69 respectively. Randy Alexis rounded out the East squad scoring with a 75. The effort, however, by the East squad was not enough.
At Bluebonnet on June 6, the West extended their winning streak to five in a row as they again knocked off the East team with a 72.16 to 73.08 win and jumped up to a 7-4 season record while the East fell to 4-7.
David Kosbab powered the West to a victory with a glorious net 58. Garland Virden followed closely with a 60, Bill Barreda finished with a 64 while David Galindo and Robert Sebring continued the low scoring with 65s of their own. The East squad just seem to have tremendous support all down its roster. Jim Abercrombie, Ed Stokes, Mike Sobremonte, Grady Morris, and Domingo Hernandez all scored in the high 60's to help solidify the team effort.
On the other hand, the East squad had more players in the 60's with 12 to 10 for the West but lagged behind the West squad at the bottom part of their roster. The East's Lawrence Noble however, tried to keep pace and turned in an excellent 63 for his round. Lino Oballo, William Sampson, and Lee Van Burkleo shot 64's while Gary Prott had a 67. Terry Rodriguez, the 2015 Individual Grand Prix Champion, turned in a 68 as did Joe Noon, Mike Prendergast, and Charles Kelley in the losing cause.
But one month later, at Bluebonnet again, the East finally got back in the winning column with a stunning upset of the West team with a 72.64 to 73.87 win.
The win was propelled by a net 63 from Travis McWhorter and a 65 from his playing partner, Don Visness. Jerry Horton also turned in a 65 while Larry White finished with a 67 to help the winning team's cause. Another East player scoring in the 60's was Lino Oballo, a newcomer to the ASGA, with a 68. Veteran ASGA members, Samuel Jenkins and Terry Rodriguez, finished with 69s.
Even though the West team lost the match, it didn't stop Jack Slayton from coming away with the lowest score of the day and one of the lowest of the year. Slayton, the current leader in the Individual Grand Prix, shot the mythical 59 to lead the East team. He was followed by Bill Burke with a 67 and Jim Bennett and Walt Camenisch with 68s.  Bill Zuraitis, Ken Pilcher, and Domingo Hernandez finished with 69s.
With the West still in a dominant position at 7-5, the East stemmed the tide with their most recent win and stood at 5-7 with two matches up for grabs before the Annual Tournament on September 20th.
