First year Team Grand Prix (GP) champions, George Robbins and Frank Segura, are on the verge of repeating their feat of two years ago of winning the ASGA Team GP championship. With a combination of both winning and participation, the Robbins/Segura team has built a large lead in the team portion of the Grand Prix points race. They have a total of 142.5 points gathered in the 23 tournaments they have entered.
Robbins and Segura have a 17-point lead over Jerrwood Marshall and
Ray Harper. Marshall and Harper, a long-hitting pair, contrast sharply with the playing style of Robbins and Segura who rely on their short game for wins. Marshall and Harper have accumulated 125.5 points but are only seven points ahead of the third place team of Robert Stojanik and Ben Taylor. Stojanik and Taylor have 118.5 points.
The field starts to get crowded after these first three teams. RH Harris and Jerry Newton hold on to fourth with 111.5 points while Domingo Santos and Gary Prott are close on their heels with 109.5 points. Challenging Santos and Prott is the team of Alton Franklin and Wayne Patterson who trail by only a half point with 109 points. Making up this closely bunched group is Don Visness and Travis McWhorter with 106 points.
Don Pratt and Bob Remey are in the eighth position with 102 points followed by Jim Abercrombie and Kenneth Lauber with 95 points. Chester Burks and Dehart McMillan round out the top ten with 92 points.
The Team GP championship season will end with the Total Net tournament at Morris Williams, the last event before the B-B-Q date. There are eight more tournaments left before the championship season ends.
