West Slams East With Three Wins

Nothing seems consistent in the East/West golf series this season. The West team reversed their losing ways by crushing the East squad in two matches while narrowly winning the third one in  the most recent round in the series played at the Austin public links.
The West beat the East at the March 1st match at Bluebonnet by a whopping 70.92 to 73.23 margin as Grady Morris led the way with a sparkling 61 on the wind-swept course. Morris was followed by Don Davis who shot a 62 while Walt Camenisch and Wil Walther came in with scores of 64 each to help anchor the West win. John Egbert, Domingo Hernandez, and Curtis Higgs all provided support with scores of 65.

The East's Fred Conder matched the low score of the West team with a 61. Samuel Jenkins and Ken Garrett finished with 64s while William Boyd, Sam Amsler, Juan Davila, and Don Theiss rounded out the East's efforts with 65s.
Even though the West upped their record to 3-4 and the East fell to 4-3, the westerners were not through. In the next match at Lions on April 5th, the West again swamped the East with a 73.51 score while the East finished with a 75.20. Bob Chapa led the West with a 64 and was supported by Bill Burke, Grady Morris, and Jesse Ybarbo all coming in with a 65 score.
The East team was led by Don Pratt, Robert Amaro, and Dewayne Digby with 66s. The win by the West tied up the series at 4-4 with the Morris Williams match up next.
Then on May 3rd the West narrowly beat the East in a close 69.44 to 69.97 victory. The West threesome of Dehart McMillan, Wally Yousef, and Curtis Higgs led the way by shooting 61s. Larry Sowell followed closely with a 62 and Bob Chapa finished with a 62 to help spark the win. Denis Ching, James Tatum, Grady Elliott, and Bob Gamble aided the effort with 65s.
On the East squad, Samuel Jenkins led with a 60 followed by Ben Taylor (63), Don Visness and Charles King with 64s. The loss put the East at 4-5 and the West at 5-4.
