Bobby Johnson roars to GP lead

Bobby Johnson hits another long drive
Less than a month ago, Bobby Johnson, was sitting in seventh place in the Grand Prix standings with 87.5 points and nine points behind the two leaders, Troy Collins and Vic Loar. Today, Johnson sits on top of the standing as the lone leader with 113 points with only one tournament left until a Grand Prix champion is determined. Johnson's meteoric rise to the top was based on solid play in the tournaments but his first place finish in the Annual ASGA Championship pushed him to the top. The championship tournament is worth double points and Johnson
made the most of it.
Trailing Johnson in second place is Travis McWhorter with 111.5 points followed closely by another slow starter who has done well recently, Terry Rodriguez. Rodriguez has 109.5 points while holding down third place. Last year's GP individual winner, George Robbins, has started to move to the top as well. Robbins who was in eighth place in September has now moved up to the fourth spot in the ranking.
But the biggest move was made by Carl Givens who languished in 19th place in early September and now stands tied for the fifth spot with Vic Loar on the ranking list with 103 points. Frank Segura was also down in the middle of the pack a month ago but now is tied for the seventh spot with Sam Jenkins with 101.5 points. Rounding out the top ten are Troy Collins, Jerry Newton, and Jack Slaton, respectively,
Realistically, it looks like Johnson, McWhorter, and Rodriguez will be fighting it out for the title as they are separated by only 3.5 points. If these three fail to produce it will throw another eight to ten players into the mix and would make the final tournament at Bluebonnet on October 20 a real shootout.
